This Thursday at Coomera Clubhouse, we are welcoming Erin from Calm Kidz Yoga. Erin will introduce the practice of Yoga to the children in a fun, light-hearted way that the children are sure to love!
We wanted to ask Erin a few questions about Yoga including how the classes run, what’s involved and what benefits the kids have the potential to enjoy. If you have any questions or would like to book your child in for a weekly Calm Kidz Yoga class, see the team at the front desk.
What do your kids yoga classes involve?
Calm Kidz Yoga is all about having fun, being kind to one another and moving our bodies.
During our classes, we like to take the children on a little adventure through music, movement and mindfulness. Each week we have a new and exciting topic that the class is based around we then tailor each class depending on the age of the group or sometimes we even let the class be guided by the children to see where the adventure may take us.
What does that look like you might ask? We start with an introductory activity, then move on to yoga poses (Yoga Chirography) free expression & then finish with some soft music & meditation to quieten their minds.
What benefits do children enjoy when they participate in a Calm Kidz yoga class?
During our classes, children feel empowered. Yoga is great for building children’s confidence. When they patiently work towards a goal they learn and then successfully reach those goals through patience and hard work it teaches them that they can do anything if they just keep practicing.
When children participate in our classes it’s about coming together to help one another and they feel more connected. It helps keep them grounded in this world that is moving way to fast. They have fun, feel happy and are ready to face anything that comes their way. Children feel more connected with their body, minds and spirit.
Why do you believe yoga is important for young children to practice?
I believe Yoga is very important for children to practice as it teaches them many things such as self-awareness, It also helps to improve strength, flexibility, mind-body awareness and is also great for their concentration skills and it promotes calmness. Practicing yoga is a great way to boost confidence and self-worth in children, it also helps children to connect more deeply with the inner self. Yoga brings that marvellous inner light that all children have to the surface. Yoga challenges the physical body as well as calms the mind.
If a child takes just one thing from doing one of your classes, what do you believe it will be?
To be kind to one another! I believe that we need to help teach our children to fill our hearts with love and to be kind and accepting to one another.
Our lives are so busy and our lifestyles are so fast-paced, can yoga help to slow things down for our children?
Yes! Yoga can definitely help little ones to slow down. Like adults, children have to deal with their own stress in life from moving house, starting a new school, preparing for a new sibling to arrive, just to name a few. These are all very stressful events for children, although we may not realise it. Children need a way to manage stress and anxiety and by teaching children yoga and breathing techniques to incorporate into their daily lives this is one way for them calm and process their thoughts.
Is there anything else you would like to share with our parents and community that may be interested in having their children try out Calm Kidz Yoga?
Children live in busy worlds, Yoga teaches us about taking care of ourselves. Yoga is a great way to move our bodies and feel healthy, teaching children how to take care of themselves is one way to show love. You don’t have to be great at something to do it. It’s about looking after yourself & moving our bodies every day!
